Privacy Policy
Effective September 9, 2026
Alyne works because you tell another person what you're trying to do and then show up for them. That only works if you trust us with what you share. This page is a plain description of what we collect, who can see it, and how to get it deleted.
Alyne is a sole proprietorship based in British Columbia, Canada. When this policy says "we" or "us," that's the business behind Alyne. It applies to joinalyne.com and app.joinalyne.com. Privacy questions and deletion requests go to hello@joinalyne.com, which reaches the person accountable for this policy directly.
Alyne is currently offered in the United States and Canada only. We are not offering it in the UK or the EU yet. If that changes, we'll update this policy first.
What we collect
When you create an account. Your email address and password (passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored hashed — we never see or store your actual password), your display name, and an avatar photo if you upload one. You also choose a goal, which is what we use to match you with a partner.
Your timezone. Read automatically from your browser. We use it for one thing: deciding when your day starts and ends, so your streak is counted against your own clock rather than ours.
Your check-ins. A text note, a photo, or a voice recording, depending on what you choose. We also store the date of each check-in and your streak count, which is calculated from your consecutive check-in days.
Notifications. If you turn them on, we store a push subscription for each device you enable them on, so we can send you a reminder. This is a token issued by your browser, not a device identifier we can trace back to you elsewhere.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number — Stripe handles that. We keep your subscription status (trialling, active, cancelled) and the plan you're on: $9.99/month or $79.99/year, after a 7-day free trial.
Basic technical information. Standard information our hosting and analytics tools record when you load a page: browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address — city or region level, not an address.
One thing worth knowing about avatars. Avatar photos are stored in a public storage bucket. That means an avatar can be viewed by anyone who has its direct link, not only by your partner. We don't publish those links anywhere, but we'd rather you knew than assumed otherwise — pick an avatar you'd be comfortable being public. Check-in photos and voice recordings are different: they sit in a private bucket and are only served through temporary links generated for you and your partner.
How we use it
We use your information to operate Alyne: matching you with a partner, showing your check-ins to that partner, sending you notifications and service emails (like check-in reminders or account messages), processing payments, providing support, and improving the Service. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who can see your information
Your accountability partner sees your display name, avatar or initials, goal, check-ins, streak, and any messages you send them — that visibility is the core of the Service.
Service providers process data on our behalf: Stripe (payments), Supabase (database, authentication and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Resend (account emails), and PostHog (analytics). Push notifications are delivered through your browser's own push service — Apple, Google or Mozilla, depending on your browser. Each provider receives only what it needs to do its job, and none of them may use your information for their own purposes. These providers process and store data outside Canada, primarily in the United States.
Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Analytics, and what we deliberately don't record
We use PostHog to understand whether the product works — how many people sign up, how many come back, where people get stuck. We configured it narrowly on purpose.
Autocapture is off. PostHog is not recording every click and keystroke on the page. Session recording is off. There is no video replay of your session — nobody is watching over your shoulder. We record three things: page views, that a signup happened, and that a check-in was saved. The check-in event carries only the type — text, photo, or voice. It never carries the content. What you actually write, photograph, or say never enters our analytics tool.
Analytics events are linked to your account using your Alyne user ID, so we can tell a returning person from a new one. We don't build analytics profiles for people who aren't signed in. PostHog stores this data in the United States.
Deleting your account
We keep your information while your account is active.
We don't have a self-serve delete button yet — we're building one. Until then, email hello@joinalyne.com from the address on your account and we'll do it by hand. Here's exactly what we do when you ask: cancel your subscription so you're not charged again; end your match, and return your partner to the queue so they get paired with someone new rather than being left waiting on you; delete your files from storage — your avatar, your check-in photos, your voice recordings; and delete your account and the records attached to it, including your profile, goal, check-ins, streak, and notification subscriptions.
We'll confirm when it's done. Because this is manual, we commit to completing it within 30 days, but in practice it's usually a few days.
What we keep: records of payments and subscriptions. We're required to retain these for tax and accounting purposes, and we can't delete them on request. They contain your email address and what you paid — not your check-ins, and not your files.
Your partner will have already seen the check-ins you shared with them while you were matched. Deleting your account removes them from our systems; it can't unsee them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email hello@joinalyne.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Cookies
Alyne uses two kinds of cookies and browser storage, and no others. Necessary — to keep you signed in and make the app work. Analytics — our analytics provider, PostHog, sets a cookie so we can tell a returning visitor from a new one. We do not use advertising cookies, and we don't allow third parties to track you across other websites. We don't yet have a toggle to turn analytics off — email hello@joinalyne.com and we'll exclude you manually.
Children
Alyne is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or in the app before they take effect.
